Class 1A with 18 boys with from one to three years
study of English.
Class 1B with 22 boys, 8 of whom had no previous
knowledge of English.
A tentativo "First Year" Timetable was produced, which seems to be
working sufficiently well to form a basis for future years. Subjects
are allotted time as follows:

(4) DEVELOPMENT.
(a) Students.
Considering the very large number of candidates for the

first ydar, there should be no troble in securing students of suitable standard in future. The method of selection seems to have been extremely
officient, though it will be impossible to regard either class as
homogeneous for at least 12 months. The re can be very little doubt that the best recruiting grounds have been tapped, and it is satisfactory to note that many of the "Dockyard" boys are taking their place among the best boys in the school. All students are keen and progress is
very steady.
The great difference in the standard of English in the two classes will probably repeat itself in successive years, although the Principal hopes that conversations with the heads of the schools at Taikoo and Hong Hum will in time result in the "Dockyard" boys coming forward with at least a little English. In some ways the division of each year into two classes is a definite advantage, since the class rooms hold a maximum of 20, and in any case it would be essential to
